Inspiration for beautiful period property bedroom decor
Living abroad in Switzerland for many years, we rented an apartment and a chalet style house. Yet I never fell in love with this style of living.
You see I grew up in an old Victorian that was my parents restoration dream project. Initially we lived in a caravan in the yard while my father worked room by room to create a semblance of living space, removing wasps nests and crumbling bits to restore order to the dilapidated pile.
I always vowed that when I was grown up, I would live in a nice modern and WARM house. Those of you that know me, understand fully how I struggle with my lizard-like circulation to live in this Irish climate in a period property.
Yet now that I am grown up, I have this ridiculous love affair with sash windows, cornicing and creaky floors - all the things my childhood self despised! Can anyone please explain?
Buying a piece of history and creating the perfect interior decor is something watched my mother do with deftness. She chose classic white for the windows and doors, skirting boards and architraves. Then exploded with pattern in carefully studied fabrics for curtains and bedspreads, pelmets and carpets. It definitely speaks volumes of an era.
In a full redecoration during the last 2 years, the patterns have now been toned down, but pops of colour added instead with soft furnishings, and I love to see how modern prints and colours go sublimely with Victorian antiques.
I thought perhaps you would enjoy some inspiration from these similarly wonderfully decorated period property bedrooms.
This beautiful period property bedroom is painted with a dusty pink that contrasts with the polised wooden floor boards and floral touches. As with classic architecture from the Victorian era, bedrooms are large and have fireplaces. The windows too are large and flood the room with natural light.
Biophilic aesthetic suits this era, the large windows bring light to feed the plants. All the greens lend themselves to a harmonious decor and the patterned upholstered chair is a gem.
Classic period features allowing room for a chair, fireplace, dresser, mirror, sliding sash window. Even the modern addition of a teley doesn’t detract from the serenity of this space.
